Favero Assioma MX pedal firmware

This is going to be a niche post with some keyword stuffing to help out the next person. If you happen to have a bricked Favero Assioma MX power pedal, that won’t turn on, these are the instructions from their customer support that worked for me.

I had opened up the pedals and installed the app and detected the pedals with no problem. Brand new pedals unsurprisingly had a firmware upgrade so I kicked that off. Halfway through, my app crashed. The pedals then were bricked and wouldn’t turn on, be detected by the app – dead in the water.

So, I emailed their customer support and the next day got this response:

Connect the magnetic connector to the battery charger to verify if the red light on the connector turns on;

Keeping the magnetic connector attached to the cable, connect/disconnect it to the sensor very fast (about two times per second), for roughly 5-10 seconds;

Normally, when the firmware restart process is activated, the red LED should restart blinking after 60 seconds.

This worked on the first try and my pedal immediately turned back on, and I could then pair it to the app again.

Biking is fun

I’ve gotten the biking bug. Last summer, I picked up a nice gravel bike and didn’t actually ride it that much. But after tweaking my knee running and getting tired of cycling on the indoor bike, I took a few more adventurous (for me) rides out and over the past 2-3 weeks have gone out nearly every day.

I’m loving it. I’m seeing parts of the city I normally don’t see. I’m climbing hills I could not have climbed even a couple of months ago and getting a real sense of accomplishment by doing so. I’m making new friends who also go out and ride. And, I’m getting a ton of exercise and getting stronger and fitter.

Here are a few photos from some rides I did this week. It is wild that these sorts of views and climbs are right in my backyard.

Golden Gate Bridge, from Vista Point Overlook

Spot the trend

Running is a sport that you get while the getting is good, and it has not been good for me most of this year. Holidays, bad weather, and, for the past few weeks, an achy left knee means I’ve been running way less.

I’ve been riding our indoor bike a lot as a replacement, but it’s just not the same, especially when it comes to calorie burn. I track my weight & calorie intake using Macrofactor (mentioned here), with the magic of math and good nutrition science it makes a fairly precise guess of how many calories you burn a day, using nothing but your scale weight and the number of calories you eat.

See if you can spot when I started running every day, and when I stopped. It’s amazing how quickly it picked up the trend, and how drastic the drop was. (There’s about a 500 calorie spread between the top and the bottom of this graph.)
